Safe Sanctuary Policy

The SAFE Corner

The Administrative Council adopted a revised Safe Sanctuaries policy and program for Unionville Church in September. More updates are planned to ensure we provide a SAFE environment for all. Each month we will share a portion of the policy in the newsletter as one of the ways to help everyone in the church to know our process to be safe.

Identification: Paid staff and volunteers will be readily identifiable as a “Unionville SAFE Team Member” for events such as Vacation Bible School that have a high expectancy of persons in attendance who are not regularly a part of our church events. Initially, all persons deployed under this policy will be identified with a colored lanyard with name tags to identify them as a part of the team as follows:

Blue Lanyard for trained “Unionville SAFE Team” Medical Care Responders.

Gold Lanyard for “Unionville SAFE Team” key leaders.

Pink Lanyard for “Nursery Care” paid staff

Red Lanyard for all other volunteers and paid staff serving as part of the “Unionville SAFE Team”.

Emergency Response:

In the event of an emergency, notify the closest person with a lanyard.

Unionville Safe Team members will notify blue lanyard and gold lanyard team members.

Unionville Safe Team members will assign someone to call 911 for fire, medical, or police emergencies and to direct them to the location of the emergency upon arrival.

Blue Lanyard Medical Care Responders will give directions as necessary to caring for the needs of the medical emergency including having a Unionville Safe Team member secure the First Aid Kit and/or AED as needed.

Gold Lanyard Key Leaders will take charge of the emergency, guiding other team members, event leadership, and event participants as necessary.

This year, the congregation has seen these steps followed during two medical emergencies that happened during worship. These procedures are essential to providing ministry in a safe environment and responding quickly as we care for everyone.
